The UNC Art Department is proud to present Sorted & Sundry, a two-day exhibition featuring the work of twenty seniors graduating from the Art Department. The presentation of work in this exhibition is a culmination of these students’ development in both technical skills and personal creative vision.
The artists in the exhibition utilize various types of media such as painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, animation, and digital media.
They explore a broad array of topics ranging from family memories to character design to identity. For example, Kim Karr’s large representational paintings interrogate gender in personal relationships by juxtaposing male identity with traditionally female visual symbols. Jessica Hunter’s sculptural and painterly objects are created using materials that are translucent, suggesting the ethereal quality of the atmosphere.
Students have spent the past year developing a strong body of work. Animation artist, Amanda McClees, represents the effort and goals of many of the graduating seniors, commenting, “What I want people to take away from my work is a connection with the characters I create and an appreciation for the process and care that goes into creating them.”
The full list of artists showcased in Sorted & Sundry include: Benjamin Brake, Andrew David Champion, Anwuli Chukwurah, Sarah Cioffoletti, Jesse Coleman, Casey R. Fahey, Martha Glenn, Megan Hoyle, Jessica Lauren Hunter, Hillary Jaap, Kim Karr, Zach Krasner, Megan Ley, Ariel Li, Crystal Lowndes, Amanda McClees, Kathy Morgan, Mary Mudd, Amelia Parlier and Burgess Robinson III.
Please join us in congratulating the graduating class of 2014 on Sunday, May 11 from 2-4 pm. Light refreshments will be served.
