Emeritus Professor Richard Kinnaird passed away in March of this year. He joined the faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1964, where he taught and influenced many students during a 40 year career, retiring in 2004. During his career at UNC, he was beloved and sought after by many aspiring artists, and mentored many graduate students.
During his career, Mr. Kinnaird received many awards. He received his first award for painting at the San Antonio Art Museum. During his career he won such awards as first place in the 10th annual Artists Exhibition at the North Carolina Museum of Art in 1977. He exhibited throughout the United States, and his paintings are in such museums as the Ackland Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Seattle, as well as many places locally in North Carolina.
