“Nature: Up Close and Personal” a photography exhibit featuring approximately 30 scenes from native habitats of shore birds, ocean and beach scenes and wild flowers and wild life will be on display in the Health Sciences Library (HSL) starting Sunday, March 16.

Kim HawksThe exhibit has been featured locally in Carrboro at the NC Crafts Gallery and at Duke’s Lilly Library. It will be on display in the HSL until the end of May.Hawks works full-time as Administrative Support in the Department of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine in the School of Medicine at UNC. Hawks has a degree in horticultural science and enjoys being able to shoot freelance photos of nature, plants, portraits, children and pets. Hawks previously owned a boutique nursery where she took photos of the plants for the catalog. Now, she can approach the same subject with more creativity and says she enjoys coming to her photographs from an abstract and artistic place.

Hawks’ work is being featured at Vespertime on Main Street in Carrboro in an exhibit called “Celebrating Local Musicians,” which opened on Friday, March 14. Her exhibit, “The Secret Life of Plants,” will be on display at Vespertime in May and features macro floral photography, or the inter-workings of plants.

All of the photos are framed and matted for sale. View Hawks’ entire collection at http://kimhawksphotography.zenfolio.com or email her at for more information. Hawks offers portrait, business/website and special events photography.
