Applications for APPLES Service-Learning Alternative Fall Break (AFB) are open Aug. 22 to Sept. 18. Through AFB, students learn and serve outside the UNC community over fall break. Before the break experience, participants attend orientation sessions to prepare for the challenges and issues they will confront. During the break, students collaborate with community service partners in various capacities, engaging in both direct and indirect service as well as advocacy work.
APPLES sponsors AFB experiences in six focus areas: urban communities, Latino communities, rural communities, environmental issues, Arts in Public Service and Service-Learning Initiative. Students may indicate their break preference when applying online through the Carolina Center for Public Service Application and Nomination Portal. There is a $50 non-refundable fee associated with alternative fall breaks. Need-based financial assistance may be available upon request.
