Events Calendar Dashboard Overview

The Dashboard is the first screen you see when you log into the administration area of the events calendar. When you click on the Events link on the left side of the screen in the Dashboard, you will see the following menu:

Note: If you have Administrator access, you will see additional links.

Events

Events List

When you click on the Events link, you will see the a list of all of the events in the events calendar. It will look something like this:

To edit an event, simply click its title. You can also hover over the title and then click Edit, or see the event on the events calendar site by clicking the View link.

Filters and Columns

You can adjust which events and what types of information are visible in the list view with the Filters and Columns options. The Filters and Columns options are located just above the Events List.

Using the Add a Filter drop down menu, select the option(s) that you would like to filter the list of events by. Click the X next to the filter selection to remove them one by one, or use the Clear button to clear all of the filter selections.

Click Apply to commit the selections to this working session. Click Save to save the filter options on your computer for future use. You can update and delete the filter once it has been saved. To Update it, select the filter from the Choose a Saved Filter drop down menu. Change your filter settings by adding or removing filters. Click Update Filter to commit the change. To Delete a filter, select the filter from the Choose a Saved Filter drop down menu. Click Delete Filter. The filter will automatically be removed.

Adjust the information visible in the events list view by adding or removing columns. Add columns by selecting them from the Add a Column drop down menu. Remove them by clicking on the X next to the selected option.

Add New

Add New allows you to create a new event. Review the Adding an Event documentation for more information on the event editing and customization options.

Units

Unit names will appear on events as a link that filters all events that share that tag. You can add new Units to the events editing options either from within the events editor, or under the Units link in the left navigation on the dashboard.

When you click on the Units link in the dashboard, you will see a group of Popular Units. The larger the font size that the unit name is in this grouping, the more it has been used on other events in the calendar.

You will see an area that allows you to Add New Units. Follow the instructions on the form to add the Name, Slug, Parent (if applicable) and a Description. A Parent Unit example would be if you are adding History, select College of Arts and Sciences as the Parent Unit. Click the Add New Unit button to commit the change. You will see your new Unit appear in the Units list on the right side of the Units page.

The Units List shows all of the existing Units saved to the Events Calendar. Similar to the Events List, you can search existing Units, reorder them, and apply Bulk Actions to them. To delete a unit, check the box next to it, select Delete from the Bulk Actions drop down menu, and click Apply. Reorder the Units by clicking on the column headers.

Event Tags

Tag name(s) will appear on the event as a link that filters all events that share that tag. Tags allow you to create new calendars that can be pulled into other websites. You can access your calendar feed by placing /feed at the end of the URL. For example, the #green tag calendar feed can be accessed at: http://events.unc.edu/event-tag/green/feed.

You can add new Event Tags to the events editing options either from within the events editor, or under the Tags link in the left navigation on the dashboard.

When you click on the Tags link in the dashboard, you will see a group of Popular Tags. The larger the font size that the tag name is in this grouping, the more it has been used on other events in the calendar.

To delete a tag, check the box next to it, select Delete from the Bulk Actions drop down menu, and click Apply. Reorder the Tags by clicking on the column headers.

Event Categories

You can add new Event Categories to the events editing options either from within the events editor, or under the Event Categories link in the left navigation of the dashboard. When you select the link in the dashboard, you will see an area that allows you to Add New Event Categories. Follow the instructions on the form to add the Name, Slug, Parent (if applicable) and a Description. Click the Add New Event Category button to commit the change. You will see your new Event Category appear in the Event Category list on the right side of the Event Categories page.

The Event Categories List shows all of the existing Event Categories saved to the Events Calendar. Similar to the Events List, you can search existing Event Categories, reorder them, and apply Bulk Actions to them. To delete an Event Category, check the box next to it, select Delete from the Bulk Actions drop down menu, and click Apply. Reorder the Event Categories by clicking on the column headers.

EventCatList

Venues

You can add a Venue to your event from within the events editor, and see all of the existing Venues under the Venues link in the left navigation of the dashboard. Users with Editing access cannot currently add Venues to the Events Calendar.

Organizers

You can add an Organizer to your event from within the events editor, and see all of the existing Organizers under the Organizers link in the left navigation of the dashboard. Users with Editing access cannot currently add Organizer to the Events Calendar.
